St Mary's Funding

St Mary's Church has the responsibility to serve the needs of everyone in the parish. Indeed nearly every person in our parish will have been within the doors of the church for either Divine Worship, a Christening, a Wedding, a Funeral, or for some other event. In Addition,  we visit hospitals and residential homes for the elderly and infirm, and visit the sick at home. We are involved with the schools, and serve the community in many different ways.

Of course, some choose to worship at other churches with whom we work as closely as we can, and they have responsibilities and duties there, but your Anglican church is available to all of you.

Yet all this costs money. People need St Mary's to be there for them, and now we need to turn to you to ask for your help and support.

Repairs to tower in 2001

Running a parish is a costly business. Our share that we pay the Diocese towards the cost of our parish clergy this year is £35,000. That is almost £700 per week. This is even before we begin to pay our heating and lighting costs.

During 2001, we have raised £53,000 to pay for essential maintenance work on the tower.
